Henry lived at Portobello, Willenhall, Staffordshire. Son of Charles and Bridget Bettelley; Husband of Sarah. Ellen. Bettelley, of 4, Knowles Road, Portobello, Willenhall. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting at Bilston, 1st February 1915. He went to Gallipoli 28th August 1915, became sick and was admitted to St. Andrews Hospital, Malta, 17th December 1915. He was transferred to Alexandria, Egypt and rejoined his battalion at Hallah and went to France 5th July 1916.
He was transferred to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 20th July 1916. He suffered shrapnel wounds to his left arm and shoulder 1st October 1916 and was admitted to No. 6 General Hospital, Rouen, France. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. George, 9th October 1916.
Henry returned to France 12th June 1917 and died of wounds No. 19 Field Ambulance 20th November 1917, aged 34.
