Busby Charles Ordinary Seaman C/SSX 30870
H.M.S. Keith Royal Navy.
Born 8th January 1921 in Wolverhampton son of Charles Henry and Martha Busby. On 25th June 1937 Charles joined the Great Western Railway company as a uniformed staff member. In 1939 his parents’ home was 101 Goodyear Avenue, Wolverhampton.
Killed in action 23rd May 1940 aged 19. On 10th May 1940, the Germans launched their invasion of France and the Low Countries. On 12th May, H.M.S. Keith sailed to the Hook of Holland in the Netherlands to evacuate Allied troops. On 21st May, H.M.S. Keith was one of three destroyers that evacuated 468 civilians from France. Two days later the ship was in Boulogne-sur-Mer, loading British troops to be evacuated, when she was attacked by German troops. She was hit by a mortar bomb and machine gun fire that killed her captain and wounded many others; Charles was killed during this action.

Born 25th June 1912 in Wolverhampton son of John and Annie Dunn. In 1939 John was living with his widowed mother (his father dying in 1935) at 169 Lord Street, Wolverhampton along with his younger siblings George and Hilda. John was employed as a steel erector.
Died 25th May 1943 aged 32.

Jones Arthur Charles Gunner 4924702

Born 26th June 1916 in Wolverhampton son of Charles Henry and Agnes Emma Jones. In 1939 they were living at 17 Prole St., Springfield, Wolverhampton along with Arthur's older sisters Kathleen and Elsie and younger sister Doris; Arthur was employed as a grocer's clerk. Arthur married Irene Bateman March 1942 in Wolverhampton, they lived at 251 All Saints Road, Wolverhampton.
Arthur was a member of 3rd Battery which became part of the larger 2nd Airlanding Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery which was formed on 22nd February 1945.
Between 16th and the 20th of March 1945, the Battery worked to get ready for the successful Operation ‘VARSITY’. This would see the largest single drop of Allied airborne forces in the Second World War, as over 20,000 men from the British 6th and American 17th Airborne Division’s would land on the east side of the Rhine near Hamminkeln and Wesel in Germany on 24th March 1945.
They landed on three different Landing Zones, ‘R’, ‘P’ and ‘A’ to support different elements of the 6th Airborne Division in their missions on that day, sadly Arthur was killed in this action 24th March 1945 aged 28.

Born September 1912 in Lutterworth Leicestershire son of Charles Henry and Florence Edith Luther; joined the Postal Service 16th August 1938. Charles married Irene Jeavons July 1939 in Wolverhampton.
Reported missing 15th August 1940 presumed killed in action 17th June 1940 aged 27.

Orme Wilfred George Private 7593767
Royal Army Ordnance Corps
Born 31st July 1919 in Wolverhampton son of Wilfred James Orme and Nellie Orme. In 1939 they were living at 329 Cannock Road, Wolverhampton along with William's older brother Harry younger siblings Harold, Mary, and Albert. Wilfred was already a professional soldier serving in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.
Killed in action 24th May 1941 aged 21 during the German airborne operation to capture Crete which began 20th May 1941, by 24th May the British Army was in retreat to the south of the island. Wilfred was initially reported as missing.
